I did, in fact, see the film twice. And I laughed ehratily at both screenings. Seems that Robert was looking for a film about Rome this isnt it. The magic and mythology of Rome merely serves as the catalyst for the comedic silliness that ensues with the bulk of the film occuring in New York. Thus, a wedding and the dusk slideshow travelogue amply satisfies the purpose of Rome. This film is about comedy pure and simple. The comedic elements harken to days gone by, employing physical comedy and even silliness. Contrived plot? Almost any plot today is contrived and when you have boy meets girl, you can generally predict the outcome.
